Without Faith Within the Church

In the thrust of this pandemic with COVID19, so many of us have been isolated from people.  Isolated from church, funerals, weddings, parties, work, and family.  Isolation does things to people.  I see the protests and wonder if all this anger is not just from an unjust death but also from the stress of being alone.  The stress of not being able to go out freely.  Then, I look within the church.  Are we any different?  Even I let this isolation get to me as I contemplated four of my pastor's sermons.  It disturbed me as he repeated "All Lives Matter" without confronting racism in our church.  In my mind, he was feeding the racism of the minority of our members.  I considered leaving the church but leaving does not make it better.  My father told me once that it was his church and it was his duty to stay and show God's love.  It is unfortunate that there are people in churches with little faith or no faith....

I AM THAT I AM

Do you ever question God?  Are you challenged to wonder who is this God we serve?  Moses heard the voice of God in a burning bush.  God tells Moses that He will send him to Pharaoh to request freedom for the tribe of Israel.  Then, Moses questions God.  Yes, Moses has a lot of questions for God in Exodus 3.  Moses who was educated in the house of the pharaoh was surrounded by many gods.  Each god had a name.  So, Moses in his on way asked God, "What is your name?"     God had a reply, "I AM THAT I AM: and you shall say to the children of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.'"  (My translation of Exodus 3:13,14)     As I read these verses, I wondered where was Moses' faith.  Yet, God chose Moses to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt.  God gave Moses the courage along with Moses' brother, Aaron, to lead thousands of men, women, and children out of Egypt.  Did Moses believe God?  In ...

Who Am I That I Should Go?

How often do we ignore God's calling?  How often do we find excuses to bypass one in our presence who needs to hear the gospel?  Honestly, I believe it is not fate when my path crosses with one who needs help or needs God, but God's planning.  When God calls us to serve, we should not question God's purpose.  We are called to serve, not question God's plan.      Moses questioned God.  God instructed Moses to go lead the Hebrews out of Egypt.  How did Moses respond?  In Exodus 3:11 Moses asked, "Who am I, that I should go unto the pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?"  In chapter four, Moses continues with an argument. 4:1 "They will not believe me, nor will they listen to me." 4:10 "I am not eloquent.  I am slow of speech, and slow of tongue." 4:13 "O my Lord, send, I pray of you, by the hand of him whom you will send." Even after God had assured Moses by turning his ro...
