Jesus' Lessons: Service
People respect a good
boss or leader. Respected because of
good decision making and people skills.
Let’s add to the list a leader willing to make the coffee, clean up his
own spilled coffee, sweep the floors, answer the phone when everyone else is
too busy, help his workers when work piles up, and show appreciation. A good leader shows that he cares. Jesus was more than a leader or boss. Jesus was God’s Son. When Jesus began to wash his disciples’ feet,
imagine how they must have felt. Quick
spoken Peter even declared, “You shall not wash my feet.” What Peter did not understand is that his master
was serving him so Peter would know how to serve others.
After Jesus had
finished washing all their feet, he explained his reason. “If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed
your feet; you also ought to wash one another’s feet. I have given you an example, that you should
do as I have done to you. The servant is
not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent
him.”
Jesus was setting
an example for them to follow. Jesus
knew that their life would change when he is no longer with them. Part of his ministry was to prepare them for service. This service will be to spread the gospel to
the whole world. This message is for
each of us. It doesn’t matter where we
serve, but it does matter that we are willing to serve.
