The Light of Life

I am the light of the world; he that follow me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life.  John 8:12

Each of us makes our own choice to follow Jesus or not follow Jesus.  In John 8, Jesus calls us to follow him because he is the light of the world.  If we follow Jesus, we will not be in darkness.  In darkness, we can’t see where we go.  There is no good plan in darkness because the darkness blinds us.  Each of us makes our own choice to live in darkness or have the light of life which is in Jesus.

The Pharisees did not choose Jesus.  They were blinded by their interpretation of the Law and their own self-righteousness.  They did not expect the Son of God to be a simple carpenter.  They were expecting a royal king.  Unfortunately for the Pharisees, they sought physical riches and not spiritual riches.  Their faith was in religion and not God.  Do you do the same?  Do you put your trust in your denomination’s doctrine more than Jesus?  Do you let pride lead us blindly in darkness?  Or, do you place all your trust in God and have the light of life within you?

Don’t make the same mistake that the Pharisees made.  Trust Jesus now.  Don’t wait until it is too late.  Jesus told the Pharisees in John 8: 28, “When you have lifted up the Son of man, then shall you know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father has taught.”  Jesus was speaking of the cross.  Some did realize this when they did lift Jesus up on the cross to crucify him.  For those who did believe, it was not too late.  However, one day it will be too late.  Don’t let that happen to you.  Open your heart to Jesus, the Light of the world, who will give you the light of life.
